The objective of the Department of Mathematics is to transform young students into competent and motivated professionals with sound theoretical and practical knowledge. The department aims to create an atmosphere that encourages research, clear thinking, and determination among students by imparting quality education. It seeks to cater to the emerging needs of students for their overall development by introducing relevant courses, fostering logical thinking skills, enabling them to function as productive citizens, and preparing them for both scientific and social life.

The Department of Mathematics, since its inception in 1979, has been striving to become a centre of excellence in Mathematics and Computing. It has been extensively engaged in teaching and research activities for Engineering and Science programs and actively encourages interdisciplinary research.

Currently, the department has 17 well-qualified and experienced faculty members, of whom 15 hold doctoral degrees and the remaining are pursuing Ph.D. programs. The faculty members have collectively published around 165 research papers in various national and international journals and have presented 215 papers at national and international conferences.

The Department of Mathematics offers 9 courses in odd semesters and 11 courses in even semesters for all undergraduate B.E. and B.Tech. Students under the R-22 curriculum. It has also introduced 3 open electives for undergraduate students. In addition, the department offers 4 courses for postgraduate programs, including M.Tech and MCA.

The department initiated the Ramanujan Math Club of CBIT in 2018 to provide students with opportunities to exhibit their mathematical creativity and computational skills. It also initiated the CBITALKS Club in 2023 to further promote academic interaction and knowledge sharing.
