About Department

The Department of Physics at CBIT stands as a pillar of academic distinction and historical significance, being one of the institution’s founding departments. Since its establishment, it has continually evolved, harmonizing tradition with innovation in both pedagogy and research. The department is renowned for its exceptional faculty, comprehensive research infrastructure, and a vibrant intellectual climate where students and faculty alike are deeply immersed in exploring the profound mysteries and technological applications of physics.
Given the foundational role of physics across all branches of engineering, the department assumes a critical and expansive academic responsibility. Its curriculum is meticulously aligned with the evolving frameworks of national educational regulatory bodies such as AICTE and other higher education institutions. The department offers a spectrum of well-structured and conceptually rich courses, including Optics & Semiconductor Physics (OSP), Electromagnetic Theory & Quantum Mechanics (ETQM), Mechanics and Materials Science (MMS), and general Physics for first-year B.E./B.Tech. students. It also offers a thought-provoking open elective, History of Science and Technology, designed for undergraduate and postgraduate learners, which cultivates an understanding of the development and socio-technological impact of scientific advancements.
The Department of Physics plays a pivotal role in orchestrating the academic schedules for first-year engineering students and is distinguished for its steadfast commitment to institutional co-curricular and extracurricular engagements. It contributes significantly to initiatives like student orientation, induction programs, and is integrally involved in major campus events such as Shruthi (the annual cultural festival), Bathukamma celebrations, and the national-level student technical fest Sudhee. Through these endeavors, students are not only academically equipped but also guided towards becoming socially responsible, ethically aware, and holistically developed individuals.

Department Vision

To cultivate and empower student talent in applied areas of Physics, and their applications in core disciplines, nurturing their intellectual growth and driving them toward excellence in science and technology.
