To achieve its goals, the department is well established with 10 different state-of-the-art laboratories along with R&D lab for catering the various research needs of the students and faculty in the domains such as Biophysics, Biochemistry, Cell biology and Immunology, Microbiology, Instrumentation Engineering, Bio-reaction Engineering, Bioinformatics, Tissue Engineering, Bio-process Engineering, Tissue Culture and also Downstream Process Engineering.

The department of Biotechnology is also very active in writing funded research projects to different agencies such as DBT, DST, SERB, UGC, and CSIR. The department has also received few research grants from funding agencies such as UGC, TEQIP, etc. for performing research activities and also for the development of the infrastructure. Moreover, the faculty of the department has a proven track record of a good number of publications in reputed journals.

The department is also very keen in having collaborations and is supporting students in finding internships and projects at reputed organizations like CSIR-CCMB (Hyderabad), CSIR-IICT(Hyderabad), Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore), CDFD(Hyderabad), CSIR-NEERI (Hyderabad), EPTRI (Hyderabad), Dr. Reddy’s (Hyderabad), Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, JNCASR (Bangalore), Green Bubble Alga Works PvT Ltd (Bangalore).

The department also envisages Entrepreneurship as a prospective career for Biotechnology students and strongly supports and encourages students with innovative ideas through its unique center “ACIC-CBIT Research and Entrepreneurship Foundation” located in the CBIT campus. This Atal Community Innovation Center (ACIC) is a huge five crore project funded by NITI Aayog-AIM and CBIT (50-50 partnership) for a period of 5years to support budding entrepreneurs.
