Dr. M. Mukunda Vani

Professor and Head – Department of Chemical Engineering

On behalf of our faculty, staff, and students, I welcome to the Department of Chemical Engineering at Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) website!

CBIT was ranked 124 by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2020. It was ranked 36 in Outlook India’s “Top 100 Engineering Colleges in 2019”. In the twin states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, CBIT is ranked number 1.

I hope that you learn more about chemical engineering program as you navigate the site.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at CBIT was established in the year 1995. The department has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) during 2004 and has renewed its accreditation status again during 2008, 2012, 2017 and 2020. Chemical engineers develop and design processes in which material and energy inputs are converted into value-added products through chemical, physical, biological transformations with the help of digitalization. Chemical engineers apply the principles of chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics, guided by the principles of economics, safety and environmental protection for the welfare of community.

Chemical engineers are innovative, creative and critical thinkers with versatile problem-solving skills.  Chemical engineers are team players, working in consultation with inter- and multi-disciplinary teams of professionals, chemical engineers define problems, determine objectives, plan and conduct research, and then design, develop, and implement computerized and controlled processes for product manufacturing. Chemical engineering is a diverse discipline which adapts to the changing needs of society, also referred to as universal engineering.

We offer Bachelor in Chemical Engineering degree program at two levels with regular and an honors degree. The students also get an opportunity to complete a Minor degree from another department. Our undergraduate program is internationally renowned for high-quality classroom-based education in conjunction with practical work experience.

CBIT Department of Chemical Engineering trains our students to be proactive participants in chemical engineering for community and dynamic leaders for our ever-evolving world. The profession has placed its graduates in different positions, spanning over the broad areas of digital (the process of converting process data into a digital, computer-readable form) world, consumer products, plastics, chemicals, bio molecular and biochemical engineering, biotechnology, fuel, food technology, nanotechnology, alternative energy, and petrochemicals, both domestically and internationally. More recently, our graduate students are placed in top companies such as Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Waters, Pfizer, and Sanofi, to apply their research training to consumer and healthcare products.

We have hired a highly accomplished and diverse faculty. Our faculty is recognized for their research and educational impact through their experiential skills. They are members of a variety of professional organizations. Our department is exponentially growing by leaps and bounds and our impact in chemical engineering education and research is poised for continual growth in the years ahead.

Our students’ Commitment makes them achieve Excellence as they are Motivated by the efficient faculty (E= M C2).

Our department tagline “We bring Chemical Engineering into Life” tells the motto and story of Chemical Engineering department.

For our alumni: If you are a member of LinkedIn, you can join the CBIT department Chemical Engineering alumni group. This can enable you to connect with friends from the past.
